It's sad that people answer without doing a little research.
VW thinks their tranmissions are made so well that they sealed the transmission.
Yes, the transmission is sealed. There is a plug that can be pulled when the transmission was filled. They are a pain to get to and a pain to fill.
You can take it to the dealership to have them add fluid, but the car needs to be on a level surface and the transmission warmed up as you basically inject fluid through the plug hole.
You'll then need to get a new plug from the dealership because you typically end up damaging it when you pull it out.
Personally I don't believe that was a smart design, but obviously GM didn't agree with me because they're doing it too now.
My advice is to take the car to the dealership and let them service it. If you insist on doing it yourself do a search on the web for VW Jetta Sealed transmission.

Assuming that you are referring to an automatic transmission:
Use a funnel and add fluid through the transmission dipstick tube. Be careful not to overfill, the distance between the full mark and the low mark on the dipstick is usually only about a pint. Seeing as transmission fluid comes in quarts, you do not want to dump the whole quart in. Add a bit, and recheck the fluid level. Continue until the level is between the low and full marks!
With a manual transmission there it a plug that has to be removed, and gear oil is added through that hole!

You got to drain it first then fill it up where it reads transmission fluid under your hood. Yeah just look in your manual though.

The short version is this.... Use a long funnel, make sure the tranny is warm, and the engine is running, and on a flat surface.

Down the dipstick tube. You need a slim funnel to do this.

You use a funnel and pour it down the tube the tranny dipstick is in.
