I think a $lut is a person,not just a woman, who has had many many sexual partners. I'd say around 5 would make you a $lut. But it really depends on your age if your a teen I'd say about 2 but if your an adult in your 20's then around 5. A $lut could also be someone who dresses really showy, you need to keep some things to the imagination.

Somebody who sleeps around a lot, and who doesn't care who it is they sleep with. However, they have to enjoy the sex. People who are forced into it (whether by a person, by depression, or by poverty) are not sluts in my mind. I'm not sure what you'd call them. Maybe whores?

easy where sex is concerned .... the dollar sign (I know you used it to get the word in) would indicate prostitution rather than just being a loose woman .... and then there is the gender bias, because most men are tickled to be called s!uts.
