Others as in other people? I hope you aren't referring to 'others'.
People are wary because, well, others are different, and everyone is nervous when of something different. People have a tendency to be liked and belong and seek affiliation. With others, satisfaction of this need isn't a guarantee. So, people are afraid of rejection and not being accepted. Differences in individuals and their behaviors and personalities, idea, thoughts, views, etc. create opinions that might be favorable or unfavorable.
In the end, its scared of not being accepted by society.

they are probably brought up with a stereotype, and they fear the people they were taught to fear.
they only thing i could say is you would have to check the people out and try to just have a conversation with the individual.
example, i was looking at a Hell's Angles bike once and he saw me and i told him he had a nice ride and he said thanks. nothing negative came out of it.
example, i go into places and people won't talk to me unless i start talking to them first. i sit in a wheelchair, they can't stop looking at the wheelchair long enough to say hi to me.
hope this gives you some ideas.

They are afraid that that other person will hurt them or they don't want to be caught in an endless conversation :). Basically, it can be from obviouse reasons to rather silly reasons.

You are never afraid of the others. You ascribe to them your fear of being yourself. You fear that by behaving in the way which is yours, you may meet punishment either by the unconscious or by the super ego.
What we basically fear is that being ourselves would be revolutionary, and thus potentially unsociable.
We are right: it is revolutionary.

Because of trust. This world is full of jealously and terrorism. Some people fear others in order to protect themselves.

Humans fear the unknown. If we meet someone that seems strange and completely unlike ourselves, we are more likely to fear that person. Few people have the ability to embrace others who are so completely unlike themselves.
