I think that usually the people "bad mouthing" their leaders ARE the people who voted for the other candidate. As long as you vote, you have the right to criticize anyone you want! It's the non-voters who need to shut their traps!

Because the administration’s social and economic policies are very harmful to most of the population and very unpopular. So, if you can frighten the population, they will rally around the man presented as the powerful leader who will protect them from destruction. This is how they hold on to political power.
Elections are bought wake up.
People should always reject illegitimate authority of "leaders" people should have control overthier own lives. Workers should control thier workplace and people's money earned should be thiers not some crooks who owns the building. Obviously you are not poor, nor have ever been, or you'd know this stuff...
Voting Bush out of office isn't possible at this point. State department decisions and CIA actions are not done by the request of the people of the US, they are done by the request of the elite robberbarons who run the show.
Telling people to shut up about it only helps their goal of ******* us out of our entitled rights, rights many of our forefathers fought and died for. If you want totalitarianism (like you describe) maybe N. Korea is a better place for you to reside?
I hate to sound snippy, but Jesus man, you gotta get some intellectual self-defense in place or you will continue to be beat up by the propaganda shoved down your windpipe, by news and media of the corporate kind.

Most people forget that they do not have to like their leader to love their country.
As to the second portion of your question, in my country we vote leaders into office not out. Once in office the only recourse for the average citizen is to express ones approval or disapproval for the elected official.

There are several reasons the public will whine and complain about people of high authority. To begin with, there are always 2 sides to everything in life (love-hate, life-death, silent-loud, positive-negative,up-down, etc.). 1 reason could be certain freedoms token away from them or certain fundings or help tooken away from them as well, such as Medicad. Another reason is the decisions he makes in his power. Wars are the most common one. Another reason is most of those people who complain don't vote. There's always going to be disagreement due to personal opinions, media, press, and rumors. They can only take him out of office for committing terrible decisions that could affect our country or commit crimes. Also, it takes a while to get a President forced out of office ( use the Gray Davis situation as an example). I think the only reason you should complain is if you voted for one guy and another one wins and he starts maknig terrible decisions. I hope this answers your question.

Because, everyone bad mouths somebody whether they be in office or running for office or anything else, it's just how people are. The President cannot be voted out of office but he can be immpeached.

We have a right to complain! We can't wait to VOTE people out of office, it takes the length of their period in office to get someone else in. What we can do in the meantime is get our opinions heard through COMPLAINING.
We can't vote the President out of office but he can be impeached. However, it's an incredibly long and ardous process (remember Clinton). We're dissapointed in our President, we need to make our opinions heard.
We have the right, some would say the responsibility to complain, we don't live in Communist Russia where they come, take you out of your home and shoot you for complaining. (Although I'm sure Bush would love to make that an ammendment in the Patriot Act!) LOL!

Because I think that they are just ignorant, I understand there is freedom of speech, but if they're the leader then they got elected for it and for that there has to be voting so they won it. The leader must have popularity.

I did vote against him. We live in a country with free speech. Here is what one of the greatest American presidents who was also a Republican had to say about criticizing presidents: "To state that we must not criticize the president is unpatriotic, servile, and morally treasonable to the American public." --President Theodore Roosevelt
If you oppose free speech, perhaps you would be happier in a place that hates democracy like Iran or North Korea.

it is the responsibility of the people of a nation to bad mouth the leaders if they do something they disagree with. Leaders are not infallible and should be taken to task for their mistakes. If they are not, not only are the citizens bad but the leaders become worse.

One vote doesn't change the election, first of all.
Second of all, the reason why we can do that is because we all have freedom of speech. What's the point of having a privledge and not using it? If you want to revoke freedom of speech, run for the next election in your country and become dictator. Today, though, we can say whatever we want.
I respect that you're saying your idea. Now respect mine.

Be thankful we can without fear of reprisal. I am very, very thankful I can bad mouth any politician and not fear for my life.
It's not always me who voted for the person or party that got into power.
Besides, we have to wait for the next election, not just go to the mall and put a vote into a machine.
