Graffiti is an form of expression. I think it is easier to learn by scribbling down your own words and then get creative with them. After enough practice, it will come natural to you. If you feel the need to express yourself, then America gave you the freedom of just that. Now the consequences are bad but you may leave a lifetime impression on someone. Example: O. J. Simpson. Luck!

You can do both. Copying from a website will get you used to the general artistic style. Doing it yourself on paper will bring your own style into the mix.

As a graffiti artist for 2 or 3 years, I can tell you that the path to perfection won't be easy or quick. You gotta have patience with yourself, though.

If I were you, I would experiment first with a simple, bubbly style. Don't try anything fancy at first. Then you can start to develop a blockier style, and after that you can just make the letters look however you want.

A fun thing that I like to do is experiment with letters flowing into eachother. It looks really good when you get done.

Also, you'll want to use a Vision pen. They're the best to start out with on paper.

I missed one thing that you got wrong in your details: You aren't trying to turn words into "Funk," you're trying to turn them into art. Beautiful, flowing art... Not unreadable gibberish. It's a big mistake people have: they think we are trying to write so noone can read it. That's not the point.... The point is to make each letter a piece of art, and whether it is an abstract or a portrait is up to the artist. It's also a mistake a lot of people make when trying to learn... They think that their goal is to make the words undecipherable.

At first, your stuff will look like crap. You can't expect to be good at the start. I suggest experimenting with small, three letter words. Maybe you can copy an elaborate crew tag from a website and practice it over and over until you can do it like them, then switch to one with different letters. But I don't want you to develop someone else's style, so after a while start throwing curveballs. Change the stuff up a little.

One more thing - don't hit the streets until you've practiced with paint. I really don't like to see good stuff tagged over with garbage.

Well you're welcome in advance to begin with. Also I think that graffiti is a waste of your time. Who would you impress....some guys? Girls have no interest in such behavior. Here's a suggestion: start tomorrow smiling at every girl you see. I believe this will get you more attention than you thought possible...and from someone who could make you feel great. Best wishes

I would go to a website and practice copying the graffiti they provide and then when you get good, let your imagination take control.

I don't know what way would be easier, but I do know that practice is the only way to get really good at something. After you master your graffiti, maybe you'll be lucky enough to get really good at being someones cell *****!!

Graphitti is considered art although it is vandalism. You cant really copy art and call it your own. Start with what you believe in, then the rest will follow.
