No. Honestly I've seen a lot of George W. Bush's life before he became President. Not only is he a bad President, but he was a disastrous governor in Texas and did the same thing to their state as he has to the United States and flushed it right down the toilet, and he's a generally poor example of a human being.
Before doing that, he spent his life doing absolutely nothing except screwing up and letting other people take the blame. Gets into the National Guard, spends his whole time there on a drinking binge, then goes AWOL for seven months? Who cares? It's not like we were executing other people's children for that sort of behavior at the time (well, we actually were, but not the RIGHT KIND OF PEOPLE'S children, and that's the important thing to remember). Gets busted for drunk and disorderly? Boys will be boys! You're not supposed to remember that's something that usually ruins the lives of your average day folk, after all. Mis-invests public money in failed efforts to find oil in a state where people are literally tripping over the stuff in the streets? Daddy's friends can take care of it. S&L scandal loses 90 million? Oh gosh, not his fault. Bail out time. Plunges Texas from its best economic times straight into the worst recession in its history? That has to be the last guy's fault, you know... everyone loves me.
Be offended if you like the guy, but you have to ignore common sense to review the man's record and think he should be allowed to run a 7-11, much less an entire country.
The bottom line on what went wrong is that an incompetent man who never should have been allowed to make a serious bid for the office of President was swept into it, and did what all incompetent men do. He screwed up. What continued to go wrong was that he ended up in the one job where no one could feasibly fire him for it and the people were too apathetic to collectively afford themselves of the opportunity to do it, so he just kept screwing up, and kept screwing up, and kept screwing up... and when it came time for people to decide whether or not he should be stopped, he hired some very clever people to distract the public from what a poor job he did just long enough to let him keep his job because, apparently, he WANTED to keep screwing up, and keep screwing up, and keep screwing up for reasons unknown.
I'm afraid the state the country is in, and the President's "lowest in the history of the United States" approval ratings, are both the fault of the same two things:
1) A man who refuses to take the advice of wiser people even when it's mind-numbingly apparent he has no idea what's going on or what to do about it, because he has visions of ruling the world; and
2) A country of people who allow him to keep doing it.
Maybe instead of voting for looks and a bit of charm, we should try voting on who has the best grasp of the issues, who demonstrates the best ability to lead, and whose track record demonstrates the most competence for the job they're applying for. It might just avoid some of these problems in the future.
P.S.-- Oh, and for the record GWB didn't manage any of the things BassCatcher ascribes to him. His college grades were lackluster, he wasn't responsible for winning his elections (quite a few advisers his father handed down to him were... and whatever else you care to say about Bush Sr, the man was awfully bright and hired good help), he didn't accomplish more than 300 million people by being the only one out of them who could have been elected President since most people, quite a few much more solidly qualified than him (even in the conservative base) don't aspire to that job, and the bulk of evidence indicates he wasn't elected either time in any case since in both elections reviews by the state of Florida found evidence of massive voter fraud (and in both elections losing Florida would have cost him the election), and at least some of us are smart enough to know the value of people's lives and the value of their accomplishments don't boil down to what make the most headlines, and are able to pull off our arguments without resorting to logical fallacies in order to make up for the inadequacy of our thoughts. Then again, I don't recall the United States having a "President Catcher" at any point, so I guess he's one of the insignificant little chunks in the middle of the 100,000 acre cow pasture he so fondly referred to, and you know those can't think for $#!+.

Well now, lets see if we can put a few things in perspective for those among us who are the truly imbecilic, moronic, ignoramuses who think GWB is stupid.
Shall we compare what a stupid guy has done to what any of you have done - don't worry this will take about a second.
Here is a guy who, out of of 300 million people, has been selected twice to lead the country and who serves in the most powerful position of anyone in the country.
The USA is the most powerful, both economically and militarily, country on a planet with over 6 billion people on it. Does that make him the smartest guy on the planet? Probably not. Does it make him smarter than you? Without a doubt.
But let's continue. Shall we?
While you might consider him stupid, he was apparently smarter than the 100 million or so democrats who tried to defeat him in his last 8 elections. Plus, he received higher grades in college than the latest 2 liberal candidates threw up against him.
So, if according to you he is stupid, how has he also accomplished all of these things against people who you must consider smarter than you or why would you vote for them?
I would challenge you to take a look at your own pathetic, monumentally insignificant and truly worthless life and tell us all what you have accomplished in a way of even the most remote comparison.
The purpose of the question is to find exactly where YOU must inevitably rank on the intellectual scale in comparison since you have virtually nothing, either in your past or future, which will come close to a single one of gwb's accomplishments?
Looking at it that way, if you consider him stupid and he has accomplished all of these things, it must kind of make you feel about as insignificant and worthless as a drop of water in the worlds oceans. Or, to put it in terms you can relate to, a piece of cow sh*t in the middle of a 100,000 acre pasture.(9-11) DUH! Not Right? Learn how to spell. Please! And study!!!!

Bush lacks intelligence, and has never accomplished anything deserving consideration to be President. Without the influence of his father, he would be nowhere.
To the first post, that's a great point. But if your reasoning is valid, then why aren't we in Darfur, North Korea, Sierra Leone, etc.? The argument doesn't work

He's no "innocent victim". Anything but! He ordered the attack on Iraq, a completely unjustifiable act, based on lies, deceipt and innuendo. We won't even go into the budget and the wholesaling of America to corporate interests.
The worst president we've ever suffered through. Makes Nixon look like a saint.

You seemed to skip Clinton who cut our military to bone while he was on watch.
Being a terrorist it would make more sense to attack us while our pants where around our ankles. Do you think they don't take the time to keep up to date on us?
by your comment I presume you are not from Texas yet you know what he did here
Well, I am a Texan and most of use disagree with you seeing how we lived through it I think we should know

Interesting angle. I guess if anyone with any intelligence would have been in Congress or the Senate at the time, it wouldn't have happened. Where were you with your superior intellect when all this started? (It's pretty easy to Monday morning quarterback from the safety of your own home!)

His wife and daughters have nothing to do with it. Bush can barely read and write. He ruined his mind with cocaine and alcohol. Cheney and Rumfeld are running the government and Bush does as he is told. Cheney is making billions because he runs Halliburton and they are profitting from the war and hurricane Katrina. They are ruining this country.
