Doesn't that defeat the purpose of yahoo answers? Can't the question asker just "search the web" himself?

Yes it makes no sense at all. I guess they want it there so you can compare answers to facts......

You would be amazed at how many people do not. There are many many many times I see a question and have to open up a new window do a web search and then go back to the question. It is so much easier this way to do other peoples work LOL!!!

Also sometimes when I search for something I may find things that you didn't find while you were searching.

Finally there are times that I know of a web site that has the answer but I can not think of specifically what it was called I do a quick search and find it...but the asker might not know what they are looking for so they do not find that page.

You have a great point there, but every person has a different outlook of the question. Haven't you ever suggeted someone do a search on their topic? I have, how much easier would it have been to have given a link? I think this addition was well warrented. Best wishes

I think they are trying to direct the system by offering us opportunities to actually use Answers for it's intended purpose.

To actually get an answer to a question.

I don't know how successful it will be, it's annoying at first but you get used to it. Although, if you let me start researching, I forget about Answers and by then my answer is #49 and not likely of any value by the time I get back to answer it.

To make it easier to do research on your answers. Perhaps they are looking for more scholarly approach? I think perhaps they're overestimating the quality of their participants.

Excellent point. Kind of takes the sport out of it.
