While I was out of town my Dad let my nephews and nieces run amuck... they threw or wallowed in grass and it got all in the pool.... so naturally it is green with algae. I shocked it 4 days ago, put an algeacide in it yesterday and it's still green. Short of draining and refilling what should I do??? The chlorine is perfect and the ph is good.

First off is the water green and clear, or cloudy green? If cloudy green it might be more beneficial to add a floc and settle everything to the bottom-- which clears the water- so you can vac it out. Follow label directions on the floc. Then, if you have a sand filter, you should probably change the sand. Not a bad idea to do regularly. DO NOT use play sand. Sand filters are designed and engineered to use 20/40 frac sand (screened to a certain size) for maximum filtration. If you are going to cheap out on this item why bother to even spend money running the pump at all? Same logic applies to your car. Why not use baby oil instead of motor oil? Baby oil is much cheaper and "oil is oil", right? See my point? It has long been a mystery why people resent so much spending a penny on the maintenance of their pools. But I digress. Just please use filter sand. You will get infinately better filtration.

You may need to brush it in order to knock the algea loose (algeacide has a tough time with the stuff it can't get to)
oh and sometimes liquid chlorine is more effective than powdered shock, which is really only active for a few minutes

Simply put, changed the sand in the filter, had same problem changed the sand and it cleared right up.One thought, use play sand, like you put in a sand box it is cleaned before it is bagged and it is only a couple of dollars compared to about 10 dollars for sand from a pool supply. This should clear up your green pool.GUARANTEED.

Pay a pool cleaning service. What is perfect chlorine for swimming isn't necessary what is needed to destroy your problem.
