The cold hard facts.... (sorry) according to the american psychiatric association yes, babies whose parents including fathers use drugs can contribute to the child having ADHD, depressive disorders and psychiatric disorders. also, there is a risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). here is what the department of family and preventive medicine at the university of california says: "Paternal marijuana use during the periods of conception and pregnancy and postnatally (after birth) were significantly associated with SIDS. The role of paternal psychoactive drug use, especially the relationship between marijuana and SIDS, is an understudied area."

from this moment on the best thing you can do for your child is to protect his or her future.... your child will need stability, a secure environment and lots of nurturing. if you choose to keep your baby in an unstable environment and exposed to drugs your child will suffer and have a high risk of developing long term problems and could have an increased risk of DYING (SIDS).

I'm sure it is really really hard to be pregnant and expecting but there are resources out there for you to be on your own. seriously! it is AWESOME that you are thinking about the environment you will be bringing your prescious baby into... I want to encourage you to take action and make a move now.

i'd love to help you find some support in your area to make this happen. please email me by clicking on my name - rhythm4soul2.

be strong!

Well it really depends on a couple of things such as...the time you have been around him while he is using drugs...the kind of drugs...if you are using drugs...Most of the time if a baby is born with problems b/c of drugs it is b/c of the mothers use of drugs during pregnancy.I havent heared of very many side affects from the father doing drugs.I am not accusing you in anyway of using drugs. However I am suggesting that you not be around the babys dad if he can disrespect you and your unborn child by using drugs around you.My oldest childs father used drugs b4 I got pregnant and while I was pregnant and my child was colicky as a baby and had acid reflux...Though I don't know if any of that actually relates to what he did...I have never been into serious drugs and my childs father was into crack...It has been close to 4yrs. since we broke up and he isnt great with parenting..I wish you much luck!!

it depends on whether the drugs were done around you or not, and what type of drug. If it was pot, ice, meth, crack, or anything that is smokable, it can affect the baby. The baby might test positive for the drug upon delivery and may be taken into foster care. If it was anything else, then it probably wont affect the child. I wish you the best. Good Luck!!

If he does them around you and they get into the air and you inhale them, maybe. If it's something else, the baby can't be affected by him once it's inside you.

It very well may affect the way the baby will be brought up though. If it's something light like marijuana that's one thing but if dad's into some heavy no-no's, I'd be thinking about an ultimatum, for your baby's future's sake. Having a bad role model produces more bad role models for the future.

Once a man contributes his sperm for conception he has no more influence on the baby's physical development. Unless he is smoking pot, meth or crack with you in the room. Then you might inhale some of it which could reach your fetus.
I would be more concerned with how your baby will be effected when it is born. What kind of father will he be for your child if he continues doing drugs?

It might when you concieved (it could have messed up his sperm) but unless YOU were taking them (first or second hand) then there shouldn't be any problem because what he puts in HIS body doesn't get into your BABY'S body unless it gets into yours!

OH BY THE WAY! FOR YOUR AND YOUR BABY'S SAKE HE NEEDS TO GO INTO REHAB NOW! I WOULD HAVE KICKED HIM OUT THE DAY HE STARTED!

I have three kids, and my husband did drugs for 7 years. As long as you are not doing the drugs yourself, the baby will be fine.

is he having the baby .if that is so ,yes his baby could be born an addict.

on the other hand if it is you who is having the baby ,tell your boyfriend to shape up by the time it is born ,not to breathe or come close to your Innocent baby ,and that you don't want an irresponsible bad influencing potentially hazardous person endangering the existence of you precious gift

as long as you haven't been around him well he has been smoking anything but if he does drugs i would leave him because high etc people are unpredictable in what they will do. So i would say either you stop doing the drugs or i leave you.
