I've had two 4th gens, and I've been able to fit a 295/50R16 on the back of my 95, running 245/50R16s on the front. They required a little fender modification because they're 28" tall and about 11.5 inches wide. You can also go with the 17x11 wheels for the rear, where you can fit like a 315 tire in the back. I've never really researched that too much, since my MT drag radials hooked great on the back of my 00 camaro. As for older cars, I'm not real sure, but the 4th gens will accept a pretty big tire stock. If you're looking for a show car, though, 18" rims look really good on the 4th gens without that gangster crap look. Still can get good traction off the line, and they look great. Hope this helps.

If you still have the original rims for that year on your car then whatever fit on the Corvette will fit you rims. The rims and tires have to be the same size height otherwise you got to swap rims and all to make it fit

depending on the laws in your state, most do not allow over 2" difference from original or no contact with fenders in the front when turning.............install tubs and go as big as you want!
