I'm a northern person, and have nothing against southern people. (I want to live in the south in a few years) But I've gone into southern gas stations where they have hats for sale that say, "Yankee's Go Home", "Northerners Suck", etc. I've felt that southern people dislike northerners much more then vise versa, (not saying all southerners hate northerners, and all northerners dont hate southerners.) And as far as that goes, i live in the middle of nowhere, indiana, our highschool has 500 people in it. If they have smaller ones down south I would like to know, and everyone does know everyone here too, (guess youre referring to people from bigger cities and stuff)

I think that there is alot of hatred any where you go. No matter if it is North or South. I am born and raised in Louisiana and happen to love the south. Never having been up North, I can't give an honest opinion about it, but I do know a few people from the North, and they have a very dry sense of humor. I love to laugh and joke around, but they seem to take offense very easy. I would just like to say, and I know this sounds very corny, but "Can't we all just get along?" As a Southerner, I am also offended by how we are portrayed in Louisiana. We are not back waters inbreds who eat whatever is floating around in the swamp. You won't even find people like that.

My dad's side of the family is from southeast Georgia, and my mom's family lives in Ohio, so I have both southerners and Yankees in my family tree, though I have spent more time with the southern branches since I live in GA. I've spent some time up north and haven't actually encountered a northerner who disliked the south and southerners. Instead of dislike, it's more of a general confusion. We live completely different life styles so there's always going to be a gap there. It's not that they don't like us, we just baffle them sometimes! And I've probably met more southerners who dislike Yankees than vice-versa. We're so used to thinking that northerners are looking down at us that we put our guard up and draw first blood before they can. Again, that's just another fact of life. Northerners and southerners are as different as porridge and grits-and we probably always will be.

I grew up in the mountains in New York state, and have lived in the South now for 7 years. I can honestly say I have never , and I mean never ever, heard anyone my entire Northern life say anything derogatorily about the South. I can also report that within two weeks of moving to the South, I encountered more prejudice than I had my whole life!!! I am sorry that you feel Northerners do not like Southerners. Honestly, I am.

I moved from Ohio to S. Carolina and find the people in Ohio have always been more accepting of anyone new from the north and south. However, the people here in rural S. Carolina are cold and unfriendly. Whoever said the southern people are friendly? It is only formality. May as well talk to a wall. I lived part of my life in Ky. and the people here in S. Carolina do not recognize it as a southern state. I will bank the southern friendliness any old time for the Ky. people against the S. Carolina people. Moving somewhere outta yea Y'all!!!!!!

Ever since winning the Civil War, northerners have always thought they were better than southerners. I'll take friendliness over sophistication anytime. The south isn't dumb like the north think. I live in Oklahoma and I have experienced why that stereotypes are only based on minor facts.

It's a common cultural thing for people of different regions to point out differences and make judgements.
It's also normal for people in the 'south' to be considered less intelligent than those in the 'north'. This is NOT just in US, but in EU as well.
Stereotypes are just that, stereotypes.
People are the same everywhere.

Because they like to think we are ignorant, and think we are stupid for basing our family values on christianity. (most southern people are raised in the church) when in all reality, we down here have better ties with our family members, we grow up close and we're always there for each other, even our friends.
