If there happens to be someone out there that has heard of the Fifa World Cup and knows it is being played off in Germany right now I have a question for you, (please don't start your answer by saying 'you sarcastic b*****d, I know I am). Seriously, how are points awarded? I notice Germany and Ecuador both have 3 points. What happens if there is a tie within a group?

Maybe I misled you by mentioning a tie. How are points awarded, tie or not

3 points for a win

1 point for a draw

0 points for a loss

1 point for each time in case of a tie

In case of a tie in group play, for instance both Germany and Ecuador have won two games and tied once. The team with the biggest goal difference would move on to the next round.

If theres a tie in a match then 1 point is awarded
If there is a tie in knockout stage the match goes to extra time, if the tie still remains it goes to penalty shootout.
For same points
1 The teams performance against each other is concerned
2 if not, then their goal difference
3if not Lastly the team which scores the more goals are superiors

A tie results in each side getting a single point, if at the end of the group stage they all happen to have the same points, then it will revert to goals against and goals for.
