This state also had the first slave ship. Itwas the first from this country to be sent to Africa to capture slaves. Thomas Jefferson a southerner was against slavery. John Adams a northerner sponsored slave ownership and won. A southern state never ran a slave ship. All were owned by northeastern states. Go Figure.

I'll guess Delaware.

Delaware bills itself as the "first state" to join the United States & it still allowed slavery until shortly after the end of the American Civil War. Slavery may have been practiced in other areas of North America before Delaware, but that was in the colonial period (before the U.S. existed).
