In the US it depends upon where you are in the US on what you make...

For a journeyman techncian (one with a few years experience and ASE or some other certification) here in the deep south where I'm at, they are making roughly $20-$25/hour flat rate (in other words commission, what ever you bill is what you make... you bill 30 hours all you get is 30, you bill 70 in a week you get 70 hours on your check)

I've heard in New Orleans, which is a few hours away from me, they are offering $30/hour billable and paying gas costs and all to get techs to come work.

I've also heard in union areas such as California, it's nothing to make $100k or better a year.

I personally got tired of the beat your head in mentality at dealers and now work fleet for a lot less, but at least my check is constant and won't make another $7 check for a weeks worth of work.

depends on the size of the dealership, where you are, and your experience level and ASE certifications..... an entry level mechanic could be making like $12-13/hr starting out, while an experienced, ASE certified mechanic could be making like $25-$30/hr
