Not that this gives me any credibility, but I teach a course for freshman at a major university on memoir and autobiography. ;) My students love David Sedaris' Naked. It is one of my favorite memoirs, as well. I tried reading David Frey's A Million Little Pieces, but the beginning was extremely graphic--he breaks his nose and describes how it was reset without any pain medication.I couldn't finish it!.
Another great read is Lucy Grealy's Autobiography of a Face. She had cancer at a young age and lost half of her jaw. Her memoir chronicles this and also her search for identity, self-esteem, etc. She died in 1997 of a heroin overdose--a few years after she wrote this book.
The Liar's Club is great, too. Very sarcastic, which is always entertaining.

i'm uncertain you could call them memoirs, however the previous due actor David Niven wrote ( i think of) 3 novels approximately his early days in Hollywood as an actor. 2 of that are deliver on the Empty Horses and The Moon's a Balloon. extraordinarily good reads and leaves little to the mind's eye approximately most of the super and not so super actors and actresses of the forties and 50's and a few from the 60's. have relaxing, savor!

I agree with some answers already said like Memoirs of a Geisha and Night. Also, Rachel's Tears and She Said Yes are sort of like a memoir about two girls from Columbine.

"A Rumor of War" by Philip Caputo- Written by a Marine Corps officer at the very beginning of the Vietnam War
"With the Old Breed: At Peleilu and Okinawa" by EB Sledge- Written by a Marine who fought in the Pacific theater of WWII
Both magnificent stories that really make you think.

memoirs of a geisha was good, if you saw the movie, trust me the book is much better. however, if you read it please keep in mind it's not 100% accurate, some of the stuff was changed. i won't say what in case you do read it.
