I have a kenmore front loading washing machine, about four years old. It's worked like a dream until now, when it makes very loud banging sounds during the spin cycle. I believe the stainless steel tub is hitting the plastic housing.

Ninety percent of the time that happens, it's due to the washer being out of level.
Underneath the machine, are adjustable feet. Usually round. You can use a wrench or a set of slip joing pliers to move them.
Find a two foot level, borrow one on buy one, they aren't expensive and handy to have at home.
Then adjust the level, so that the level bubble is dead center. Do this in both axis. That's front to back and side to side.
That should solve the problem.
Good luck.

Mine is doing that too, I spoke to a repairman and he said something about gliders inside the drum are probably worn and need replacing. Mine sounds like a loud metal rubbing sound and is worse with heavier loads like jeans or towels:) He is coming out within the week, I can keep you updated if you like.

All front loaders have a suspension system that usually consists of springs for support & shock -absorber type devices(dampeners) to absorb vibration. I would remove the front service panel & check for broken parts.

Check out repairclinic.com. It will show you what the problem may be and what part it may need. You might be able to do the job yourself, and you can even order the parts from them.
