You can be the lousiest teacher and have VERSACE suit on as well as you can be the best teacher with PIERCING in you NOSE....get it? It all lies within the brain...and abilities to educate.
By the way, my best teacher had an ugly tatoo on her arm...

Before I became a teacher, I had both ears pierced, as well as both cartilege, my lip, and my eyebrow double-pierced. My hair was always dyed different colors. Unfortunately, I can't get away with all that anymore. (I do have five tattoos, though.)
Honestly, I don't think it would be a big deal. The biggest problem with it is that the administration will pitch a fit. Parents will not take a teacher with a nose ring seriously. As for the students, they might think the teacher is "cool," but they also might use it as an excuse to misbehave in class.

I would think that if the teacher had a pierced nose then it would be like an invite for the children to misbehave in that classroom. That is because some piercings show lack of respect for authority figure. That is how I would take it. Most of my friends would probably think the same thing.

I am a school band teacher.
#1 - Teachers have to adhere to a dress code. It wouldn't happen. Even if it did, the teacher would be asked to remove it that day, and if they didn't comply, they'd have a consultation with an administrator.
#2 - I don't think its a good idea. Teachers fulfill so many roles in the lives of students. Frankly, to do this would not be setting a very good example for young people of any age.

piercings have been going on since the beginning of time...especially in other cultures. in america, piercings don't have any substantial basis. people like them, so they get different parts of their body pierced. i don't know of any dress codes for teachers that specifically addresses piercing! and, a body piercing does not determine or dictate the climate in the classroom. by the way, i have no body piercings!

I'm a college professor, I have my nose and navel done, I also have three tatoos (which aren't often visable)... perhaps this question doesn't apply to me, but at the college level, these things are far more acceptable.
Students don't really even seem to ever comment.
