I delivered my daughter through c-section 16 months ago. I am pregnant again and it seems like I will be delivering on her birthday. The C-section was very painful for me, and the recuperation was kind of hard also. I know I will not be given an option anymore as to delivering vaginally, but I want to know why. I am about five weeks and monday is my first visit to be ob/gyn. I will be asking him, but I would like to know what other people think. Thanks

All answers are great; thanks a lot. I have asked my doctor and he said that there is a 5 to 8% my uterus will rupture at the time of delivery. He said that we will talk about it when the time comes. I will put your answers to vote since all are good.

That's not true. Many women have had vaginal deliveries after C-sections. It's called VBAC (vaginal birth after Cesarian.) I don't know whether they will allow it in your case or not. It's up to your ob/gyn and you.

That is not true information. As of last year the law states: a woman who has delivered c-section has the option of choosing either a vaginal birth or c-section for the second pregnancy, unless it is essential that she has a c-section due to a medical condition. If the reason for your first c-section was because the child was breech (did not put her head down) as that is not considered a medical condition, you should have no issues having your child vaginal; my first was c-section and second, vaginal..... Bring this up and let your doctor know that you heard about this new law, therefore, you would like to know what is going on... Do not let anyone, even if it is a doctor, put you in a situation where you do not need to be in...... Get a second opinion, I am going on my third baby and I was just confirmed this information last week, therefore, I am 100% certain that what I just stated is correct. Good Luck...

IT IS indeed possible to deliver vaginally after C section but perhaps since your daughter is only 16 months, the timing might not be long enough between pregnancies?? Do you have narrow hips? These are all things you need to ask your doctor. If your doctor is short with you and gives you no valid reasons, seek a second opinion!! I know it is possible because my cousin did c-section first and vaginal 2nd about 5 years later.

they dont recommend vaginal birth after c-section because there is a chance your uterus and the scar from your previous c-section could burst open. The refer to a vaginal birth after cesarian as a vbac, Talk to your Ob/Gyn about having a vaginal birth. Ask about the risks.

I have heard of women having C-sections the first time and a vaginal delivery the second. Talk with your doctor about your concerns and your chances of being able to have a vaginal delivery this time.

It depends on the c-section you had. If they do a bikini cut, which is right above the hair line, then there is no need, unless there are problems, to have another c-section. But if they do the emergency cesarean, where they cut you down both sides of the stomach, then yes you must have cesareans for the rest of your pregnancies.
I had the bikini cut and my ob/gyn assured me that I could have natural child birth in the future, unless there were complications that required a cesarean.

well i think that when you deliver through c-section it means either the baby's head was big or the baby's body was in the wrong position during birth. But since you're having another baby it probably won't be any complications and you can deliver your baby vaginally but it's really up to you how you want to deliver your baby hopefully the baby's head will be in the right place head first.

Because once you cut that tissue it will never heal as good as it was before it was cut so if you try to have a vaginal birth after the c section it could possibly tear the scar tissue and cause problems during birth

I also had a C-section. Its basically because you had your uterus CUT open and switched back up. If you tried to have a vaginal birth, your chances of your c-section SCAR would OPEN and you could BLEED to death. Its much safer just to have another c-section, then to risk... you basically popping your uterus open and bleeding to death.
Ya know... I thought the same way. I would have LOVED to experiance the vaginal birth but, I'd rather be alive then dead...

This is only true if the incision was made vertically (from your navel to your pubic bone) rather than horizontally (across your bikini line). The reason is that the uterus can heal from a horizontal incision much better than it can heal from a vertical one. It has to do with the way the muscle fibres weave together. I had my first baby cesarean and my second baby vaginally, and I had them only 14 months apart. But, you should definitely speak with your doctor as everyone is different. Good luck!!
