The reason I ask this is because I work with a girl who says to me whites/blacks could never be 100% honest friends because were too different, I am not sure what she meant and left it alone because I am almost sure it would have led to me kicking her ***

If you were both blind, would you know the differences between you (other than maybe an accent!).

I have talked with people on the phone who had assumed that because I sound white, I'm white and must automatically agree with their views and their prejudices on racial matters.
Other other side, I have talked with none whites who assume because I sound white I am and therefore have the selection of prejudices they 'assume' I have on these things.

I deeply resent those assumptions from both sides. No one gave anyone the right to assume to spreak for me, or to assume anything for me.

I have listened to Black people talk and have heard their colour / racial prejudices, just I have with Brown people (Indian / Asian men seem to love their women to have 'light' skin tones...!).

I have had none-white colleagues and friends who have shared the same tastes as me, liked the same books, films and activities ...and sometimes the same taste in female compansionship too. I once had none white girlfriend too.

I suspect that your colleague who said "whites / blacks could never be 100% honest friends because were too different," was speaking about / for herself.

Personally I get pi***d off whenever I hear someone speak on 'behalf of others in such broad sweeping statements'.... and WITHOUT their permissions to do so.

Regards.
Sash.

To be honest with you, I don't see a difference in skin colors... I'm color-blinded in the way that it helps me see people for who they trully are on inside. In my mind's eye Black, White, Spanish... my God, they all look the same.

What I mean by that is that I don't care about the skin colors as well as race, if I did and if I would've been raised like most of the people are lately... I think I would have turned out to be a hateful, resentful and ugly person in the way that I would have given so much emphasis as to what the color means and where someone is coming from, that I wouldn't have see the person on inside and behind the outside color.

In my personal opinion, Black people and White people have one main thing in common--we are all human-beings who are capable of loving, caring, and wonderful things that mean so much to so many people that it might take everyone's breath away. I could never understand what was it that White guys always had against Black guys... Anatomically, physically, and mentally guys are the same, meaning that they are all capable of loving and caring for a woman and provide her with everything that she ever wanted or wished for... once they're given a chance to do so.

Society has changed everyone so much that right now the first thing that White guy wants to do to the Black guy is to kick his butt sky-high for a mere "hello." What is wrong with people being and feeling equal, and seeing each other more than skin deep? Or, are we so shallow and so blind as to not see the person when we're looking at them? Why are we acting like the skin color is THE most important thing in this world? Why do we keep on hating each other's guts, just because one moron said that we should? And finally, when are we going to stop to give a flying-squirrel's-butt about the fact that someone is either black, white, red, yellow, or has polka-dots all over them? I think, now is the right time to finally stop, think, look around, and start liking people for who they really are and give everyone an equal chance at happiness and in life.

Who knows, maybe next time the one who'll save your life will be the one who'll be of different color than you. Think about it, what would you do in that cituation? Will you still care about the skin color?

I have to agree with your friend. There is so much ignorance and fear and rules and regulations within each of our cultures that I think that it will be difficult to attain the 100% you are referring to. There are so many things to the history of African-Americans that even African-Americans dont know, let alone whites that have to be sensative to. There is much more going on that meets the eye...but if you are determined to have a friendship, it can work. But it requires acceptance that there are some differences and THAT requires maturity.

What! Skin color and nationalities are just that! We are all people and yes, its possible to be %100 honest friends and lovers! Just hearing what your coworker say makes me laugh! My husband is black so therefore its perfectly OKAY for anybody of any color to be perfectly be friends and lovers! That girl is just prestigious and very ignorant and I feel sorry for people like that. Just ignore what she says and you'll be okay! Good luck.

She is dumb as hell, some people need to stop being so young minded. My first best friend was white and from what I know we were honest and got along fine.

Both races are human and deserve respect. As far as frienships, I think it would totally depend on the individuals iinvolved. It would have nothing to do with what color they are.
