Nope, we were chosen by God to be the elite few. Truely God's chosen people given great bodies, a lot of money and success, big houses, great clothes, terrific faces, and ... we can dance!

As a gay man, I can say for sure I certainlly never made a choice. I also had no environment to support the fact that I am gay.
Also, someone proposed that research has disproven the gay gene. That's quite faulty. Research has neither proven nor disproven, and a lot of research suggests there is at least some biological factor. There is a higher correlation among identical twins (not 100%, but a lot of things that have some biological basis aren't 100% correlated). There has also been interesting work regarding pheremones and the brains reaction to them. That's something that simple choice wouldn't affect so deeply and so clearly. When gay men's brains react the same way to the pheremones of other gay men in the way that a woman's brain reacts to those of straight men, you've got some interesting biological ramifications. Could you fake something like that, which the brain does on instinct?
There are some people, granted, who do choose it for attention or whatever, but they are very very few. And yes, to the above response, I chose to be gay at 9 so I could file hate crimes and because I watched a lot of MTV and decided it would be the hip thing to do. I'm about as secure as they come, and always have been. Seriously, do you think about what you say before you say it and realize how ridiculous it sounds?

"Being gay" is a misnomer. Choosing to have homosexual relations, including sexual ones, is just that...a choice that someone makes. If you dig deep enough past all of the popular "stuff" you will find that the so-called gay gene has been DISproven by scientists who actually support homosexuality.
Go ahead and look it up. "Being" black, hispanic, white...anything like that is genetic. "Being gay" is not.
I have posted a link to an article on the subject. I am aware that this is from an anti-homosexual group but the information is accurate and well-compiled from other sources that are not all of that same belief (i.e. some pro-gay sources too).
Dig in!
[for "sailordelta" - Why would you share such untruths in your comments? Even pro-gay folks have disproven gay genetics. If you want to believe you were born that way, fine. Just don't fib about the facts in evidence at this point.]
[for "Tarheelboi" - The studies cited by the NEMJ have now been disproven, mostly by the people who performed them in the first place. At least get up to date would ya?]

This question is just asking for trouble. Sigh.
No, being gay (or anything else) is not a choice.
Why would anybody chose to be disliked my people that have their own gun club? Why would anyone chose to have to move to a "blue" state from a "red" state in the USA because of fear of being harmed? Why would some teenagers cry when they realize they are gay, lesbian, or bi? There are many good things when you realize that too (or so I'm told) like knowing who you truly are and how great love is. But it's hard at first, at least in the year 2006.
That is like asking if it is a choice to be human. Nope, God just made you that way. It's to bad too, cause I would have been a cool cat. LOL.

i agree with WaterGoddes, this question is asking for trouble. oh well...
i think that being gay is not a choice, but it isn't in our genes, either. it's just who you are. there isn't a gene that dictates whether or not you will be in the marching band (which, by the way, is a very cool thing) or on the football team. it's just what makes you, you.
but i must say that it is most DEFINITELY not a choice. why would you choose to be spit upon, yelled at, and even have old ladies cross themselves when you pass them? i don't think that that is exactly the kind of life anyone wants. but we accept 'cause it's who we are.
oh, and to those who say that being gay is "in style" (*cough* impossible_dream and pig *cough*) read a newspaper, watch the news, go out into the world, and you'll see just how stupid you actually are.

it is a matter of nurture over nature. if you read mister bob t posted link you will find that scientist can not link homosexuality to any human gene. you will find that most people in that lifestyle came from one of these lifestyles. a single mother raising them, an emotional unattached father or were sexually touched when they were young. have a guy that posted this in another question.

My dad died and I`m not crying but pissed off cauze....?
he was never here anyway!! he would only demand things from me and threaden me when I didn`t obey him. but I`m scared that I feel this way.I should cry but I get more mad instead. my mom understands me but that doesn`t help. what will happen ? I`m being a goth for now cause it some how helps me feel less scared. you know?
this how some people turn away from their hurt. also there are thousands of people are leaving the homosexual lifestyle. if people can leave it then it is a choice.

I dont think its a choice at all. Im not gay or anything but i have friends who are and they all say that its not a choice. I mean, i didnt choose to be straight...thats just the way I am. why wold someone choose to be gay if they're just gonna get harassed and ridiculed. I think they're born that way.

Anyone who thinks it's a choice is a ******* fool. If you chose then I'd sure like to know when and how you came to that decision.
I certainly had no input in the matter, and despite how much I tried to fight my sexuality there is no way I can deny that I am gay. That's just the way it is.

I think being gay is a choice. And insecure people choose to be gay because if you are gay no one can do or say anything to you because it would be a hate crime. Also because MTV tell us the hip thing to do is to be gay.

I never made a conscious choice to be gay. There have been many studies that link biological factors with sexuality. I don't understand why people choose to ignore them.
