help..i am being attacked by these teeny little flies that are very easy to 'kill' with one slap..but they have 'guts'..they will come at me with no hesitation. they seem to be attracted to anything that is wet.T hey congregate around my plants but are Also flying all around the house. I think? they may have come from the potting soil?(don't tell me to replant..this is all new soil)or they just like the wet and the plants/soil to eat. I DON'T want to get rid of my plants and I dare not tell my hubby that I think that this is where they are coming from. (you know the people that house 80 cats..well, meet me..i have all these plants..that keep multiplying every time i 'thin' my house plants out..i don't have the heart to throw away so i root them in water and replant..i try to give them away..but it aint so easy.) so help..how can I get rid of these pests!

if yoursure they are flying, get fly paper and hang it in corners of house. rooms. they could be flees also. but i doubt it. you could take outyour plants, and pets if any and people and bomb the house. with a pesticade. check at your hardware store. i would get the bomb to kill these pests. and see if you can id them frist. so you will know what to by.

Same thing here what they are belive it or not is fruit flies , Keep the kitchen clean put away all fruit in the refrige and run hot water down the drains. make sure you have no pop cans or anything they can get at. there is spray you can put on the plants, thats where they breed to get rid of them there, but ellimidate the source, and thell be gone.

Well, I think they are comming from the plants. Go to a garden shop and look through the pestacides for something to use. I had an african violet with the same problem. I just always let the soil dry compleatly before re-watering now and it solved the problem.

It sounds like you have fruit flies.
The best Way I have found to deal with them is to set out a flat bottomed container, like a pie plate or frying pan, before going to bed. Then put about an inch of vinegar into this, vinegar draws them. If possible, then place a Lit light bulb above this, to make a reflection in the vinegar. They see the reflection of the light in the vinegar, and thinking they are flying to the light, fly into the vinegar and drown.
Hope this works for you,

They sound like fruit flies. They are hard to exterminate. You probably will need to place your plants outside until all the flies are gone. These probably are thriving on whatever decay your plants are putting out.

Fruit flies will survive and thrive on the smallest amount of food, making them difficult to get rid of. I had to remove all my carpeting, the hood over my stove, and pour alkaline solution down the kitchen drain to remove grease, before I got rid of these pests in the house I just bought.

These pests will only get worse if you don't place your plants outside.

Spray the top of the new dirt with an insecticide to kill anything left in the dirt. Then you could just start swatting til the rest are dead or set off a bug bomb and leave for a while.

positioned Listerine mouthwash right into a twig bottle or a splash into your palms or rag and rub it on bites. it is going to help alot. additionally, attempt lemon juice, or maybe fingernail polish remover( purely ascertain you havent broken the exterior from scratching too plenty..it is going to burn and lemon or polish remover might infect it)
