Changing our Memories?
What happened has happened, and we cannot change the facts. But we can change the feelings about this experience!

When we were traumatized by something, especially at an early age, we can totally release the bad feelings, still have a recollection of the event but laugh about it with no bad feelings left.

How can this be done?

This can be accomplished in in-depth psychological therapy sessions, which work with the so-called unconscious. Unfortunately, Behaviorism does not go to that point of the problem and thus misses a great deal of our reality, in my view.

A faster way is to use the Bio*Chakra Light MeditationTM, which takes only a few minutes a day. It needs to be done every day for some time, but finally the feelings may change for the better. This technique has been developed to abbreviate suffering and release old trauma, even in the case we do not know the origin of our feelings. It is worth a try, I feel. Many have used this technique with great success, since it had been developed by Dr. Bara H. Loveland in 1979. Can also be used with first impressions we do not like or even when others do not like us because of an erroneous first impression!

Can we change the past? Not the facts, but the feelings about it. Then we can only laugh about what once happened to us! We are free, and other will feel it!

First impressions are very important in certain circumstances - e.g if I meet you through a friend and you appear cold and rude, I won't see you again. If you're nice and warm, I may try to meet you again. In this way first impressions are important as they determine the path taken. However, with a colleague or classmate this may not be the case. Though you may dislike the person initially, you are constantly exposed to them and so your opinion is open to change, in which case you may even forget your initial opinion, tainted with hindsight. Likewise you may like someone at first and change your mind as you get to know them.

Sometimes a first impression is very important and possesses longevity, and sometimes it is not and does not.

First impressions do count. That is why spelling is so important.

To answer your question, any lasting impression that affects your perceptions and behavior can be changed instantly, if your understanding of the event changes. If you view some past event as bad for you and therefore react to similar events negatively, this can change when you realize there was a positive result from that past event, just as there will be a positive benefit from current/future similar events. Perception is the key to reactions and behavior.

Have you ever been afraid of something (say public speaking) yet, after you actually did it, discovered that you 'loved it'? This change in your perception will instantly change your reaction to future speaking opportunities (from fear to excitement).

Or, as a child you may have been afraid to ride your first bike. After you learned to ride it, you couldn't wait to get home from school to 'ride your bike'!
Best wishes.

Yes! First impressions do really count. If you act all wild and loud, people are going to think you always act like that. And probably won't want to be around you. Although on the other hand they might not want an all stuck up person, they like a person who's fun to be around. But remember to be your self at all times. And not to be a *** hole.

first impressions dont always count but they do leave a mark on our mind
our first impression over something is stuff that we ponder over a lot
about the 'going to places when u were a kid and remembering details'-childhood is the stage of our life when most of the mental development takes place
incidents in our childhood or youth can affect our life a lot
moreover family is something very dear to all of us(admit it or not)
and we tend to keep thinking about ppl we love
moreover, we tend to remember what is not very usual
something like a 'where did i keep my keys or my pen' is something stored in our short term memory and we tend to forget it
but something out of the usual format is likely to be remembered for a long time
there are cases where one can remember friends from nursery and recognise them on meeting them in class 9
the frustrating part is making that person remember u..

a view on a person can always change, but they will slowly change around the foundation known as the first impression. in important cases such as job interviews, a first impression is all that you might have. So I guess my answer would be yes, it most definately does count.

Yes. Get the DVD, I Never Promised You a Rose Garden. She went to the hospital as a little girl and her parents told her it wouldn't hurt. It was a lie. Her pain was intense. She found another place in "schizophrenia." She was able to get help through psychiatry to face reality and enjoy life.

First impression are very powerful, but can definitely be changed, positively and negatively, by having additional experiences with the same situation/person.

Yeah, but if you make a bad first impression, then you damn well better be good afterword. For a really long time. Like a year or two. Or seven. Like, I thought my boy was gay when I first met him, and it took him two years to convince me otherwise.

Not to me. People have bad days just like me, I would hate to judge them for something that is out of their control. Now if they were like two or three times a week, I would have to begin to wonder!
