Yeah, yeah, I know if it weren't for them then there wouldn't be an internet. That's not the freaking point, they want to take away the access to sites based on whether they pay more just to be noticed on their databanks.

We already pay for the access to the internet to these companies, why the hell should we have to be told who we can and cannot veiw online?

That's the way it has always been.

Corporations have maintained the backbone of primary datatrunks that forms the internet itself. Individual sites connected to this backbone through network service providers.

The amount of bandwidth you could afford has always limited how fast your connection was. Smaller sites and hosting companies, down multiple levels (tiers) of providers, are like physical destinations down suburban side roads. Less bandwidth equals slower access. Same on the customer's side of the equation.

The only difference in the proposed model is that even with a direct connection to a backbone provider, bandwidth would be limited based on what you pay for. This is nothing new -- network providers have offered this (called throttling) as a way to reduce costs for over a decade.

The main issue is whether the government should be in the business of regulating market economy, or whether companies should sort this out using free market principles.

Those who think the government should regulate business, because they've done such an exceptional job regulating everything else, raise your hands....

The Internet is built, maintained and owes its existence to 'corporate giants'. Whose infrastructure do you think it runs over ...

I suspect you haven't been paying attention. "Corporate Giants" have owned the internet since they adopted it from the military.
