I dislike the self-checkout for many reasons.
1. It's too impersonal.
2. Half the time I can't get my items to scan.
3. Half the time, it doesn't register that I've put the item in the bag.
4. It never wants to take my cash.
5. It fusses at you if you buy an R-rated movie or alcohol.
6. The people ahead of me in the self-checkout line are generally slow and stupid.
7. Sometimes the change thing doesn't work properly.
That's why I always go to a real human being to check out!

Sometimes it's because they're not paying attention, or don't know that they can't lean on the weighted part without upsetting the system.
Sometimes you get a bad checkout, and each thing you scan needs to be adjusted. It doesn't happen to me often, but I've actually switched machines a time or two.
It is kind of funny to see people with the deer in the headlights look. Some people are freaked out by trying anything new. Be easy on them. It might be the most daring thing they've done in ages!

Idiots GRAVITATE toward Wal-Mart, and these are the types who can't figure out how to use the self check-out machines. I am anti Wal-Mart and only visit on average once a year, when I absolutely can not avoid it...I think the self check-outs are a GREAT solution for purchasing embarassing items, like condoms and such. However, they are a huge PIA when they get stuck on alcohol or movies and you have to sit there helplessly and WAIT for someone to come over and help you.

I used to be a cashier and I hate them. I follow all the directions and they still shut down saying that I took the item out of the bag and upset the weight when I didn't do a damn thing. Last time I did it, it actually went off without a hitch. Amazing.

I don't know what self check-outs are, I'm assuming they are self service ones where you charge and pay yourself. I think some people are just a little bit dim and don't even know what supermarkets are for in the first place. :)

Because senior citizens sabotage certain ones so they can keep their jobs and not be replaced by machines... After all they don't want to relive industrial revolution all over again. I guess you have just been lucky 'till now chickenboy, but one day, one day your luck will run out...
