I think it would help heal them and prevent infection on some level, but something with an exfoliating agent would be your best bet. Tendskin works well.

First you must remove the ingrown hairs to relieve the swelling and pain. Then use razor bump medications every time after you shave until the problem is under control, they sell them in all stores in the razor or skin care sections. Exfoliate before you shave to help remove dead skin that trap regrowth hair to prevent the problem before it starts.

Tee tree oil is an antiseptic. It will help heal ingrowns but won't prevent them.
