In coin collecting, the rarity and the condition are the two main factors. A 1910 penny is not all that rare, but if it's in mint condition, it could be worth a good bit. You need to get a good reference book on the subject. And remember that the reference books get out of date quickly, so it can be quite an investment in information, as well as in the coins themselves. Still, few people who take coin collecting seriously actually lose money, unless they sell out of necessity and don't get to keep something until it's the right time to sell or trade.

Depends from what mint and condition of the coin. Go to the library or Barnes and Noble bookstore find "Guide Book of US Coins" by R,S. Yoeman shows pictures and differences. The Philadelphia and Denver mints for that penny could go for 8-10 cents. $6-$98 for the San Francisco mint.
