well the songs u picked for ballet are differnet. i mean dont get me wrong i like those songs but it just not classical. im all for trying something different though. like in center stage when they do a fast and fun song, i loved it. i really recommened the song, were dancing. i think its by P.Y.T. For jazz do something upbeat and fun. maybe canned heat, but if u want a classic try something like stupid cupid, roxy(chicago soundtrack), or sparkling diamonds(moulin rouge soundtrack). i also love the songs from Grease like, We Go Together. Or Hairspray, You Cant Stop the Beat! Well Good Luck!!!! p.s. Cosmic Girl is good too or the way you make me feel(michael jackson)

Music tastes are so personal that it's hard to suggest much that would really be helpful for you. However, I'd just like to point out that a good answer also depends on what the solo is for. For example, for a college dance audition, the faculty would probably not be thrilled about a ballet solo done to lyrical pop tunes. The style of dance that they lend themselves to is usually lyrical dance and not true ballet. Then, for things like dance competitions, you have to consider the overuse of songs that the judges have heard a thousand times - and probably have some grand prize winner stuck in their heads whenever they hear the piece from now on, with whom you could never compete. So for competitions, you should ask for more original music that is rarely pop. Your age also plays a factor in what works for solos, as you shouldn't pick a song with lyrics that are too mature or inappropriate.

But, so as not to leave you empty-handed, a good tune for a jazz solo that hasn't been overdone is "Rods and Cones" by the Blue Man Group. It has a great beat and no lyrics.

Unless you absolutely have to, stay away from pieces with words, at least words you can understand. Generally, if you dance to a song, especially a well known song, you end up 'acting' or the choreography gets repetitive.
Find some cool pieces. Vanessa Mae has some rocking classical pieces. Or check out a group called Barrage. Or Cirque du Soleil. All of the above play a variety of music, fast and slow.
Honestly, it depends on how run-of-the-mill you are. Thousands of people will make up a dance to the latest popular songs. If you like that, then go for "Unfaithful". If you're adventurous, try something you (and the rest of the nation) haven't heard a million times

I have always dreamed of doing a pointe dance to I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady. For jazz, why not "Play the Funky Music Now." I think that's what it's called. :-)

disney songs are always good for ballet. i.e. Beauty and the Beast. A Whole New World

For ballet, there is a French movie where there are many beautiful ballet parts and nice songs. The movie is LES UNS ET LES AUTRES.
For Jazz, get songs from Britney Spears or Chirsitina Aguilera.
PS. Enya is great for ballet. My dance teacher did one dance to it and it rocks and is so beautiful!

I dance a lot, mostly to my soundtracks around the house. I have my favorites with quick beats that I like to move to.
If you like Celine Dion, a good faster one could be " When the Wrong One Loves You Right" or maybe "Ten Days" and "Rain Tax".
"Prayer" is a slower one, and the music is pretty.

i'll keep it simple, i like Trois Gymnopedie (by Erik Satie) and the theme music to Edward Scissor Hands for ballet pieces.

for a jazz piece, i suggest u dont use a song that ppl will feel is outplayed and old. go for something u hear in the club that everyone will always dance to. for example, black eyed peas, pussycat dolls.

I love to choreograph ballet dances to Enya. Traditional ballet is only danced to music that has no lyrics.
