My son will be 1 month and 24 day when I would be flying to California. Would you all say it would be ok to take him? I really don't want to but my dad is really sick and I have to go?

he will be FINE...in fact it is MUCH easier to travel with a newborn than with an older baby - they usually just sleep the whole trip...the only issue that can arise is that the changes in pressure during take off and landing can bother their ears - either nurse or bottle feed your baby during take off and landing - the swallowing pops their ears, so it doesnt hurt them. Trust me. He will be fine. We took our 6 week old on a flight to NY when my grandfather died and she was a dream - just nursed her on the way up and down - NOT ONE TEAR!!! Go be with your dad and dont worry.

I have 3 kids and would never have considered not taking them with me out of town. Ever. EVER. Of course you can take your child on a flight at 1 month old. People take children even younger than that on a regular basis on planes. Did you ask anyone "real" who is in your life before you posted this question? did you consult your son's dr?
FYI- I took my daughter at 2 days on a trip to see my parents out of state. She was fine and she is now 11 and beautiful, smart, funny, and completely well-adjusted. Relax and don't wig about everything. Your son will thank you for it later. Trust me.
1 more thing- if your dad worsens and you chose not to be with him, you'll regret it every day of your life. Go. My mother has ALS and it is very difficult to see her in that way. But she needs to know that i'm here for her. Go see your dad. Take your son or leave him with your husband or his parents or whatever. Just go see him.

Your lucky ... it's much easier to take a newborn, than say, a 2 year old? It'll be fine! You're dad, along with everyone on the plane, will be goggling over him. Babies make life seem worth while ... and make sense of it all.

It should be fine, but pack plenty of bottles. You mey look into taking a red-eye flight, the nighttime ones, so he will sleep. If you call ahead and make sure the airport knows you are traveling with a child, things may be easier. Good Luck!!

i would say that is fine. make sure that you take a bag with milk, bottles, etc. and you might want to take some little toys that he could play with incase he wakes up...like...i don't know. even though he is a month old he can still play with baby toys..just keep him occupied and he will be fine. plus, he might just sleep the whole time. so its ok. and if you still don't feel comfortable taking him...ask a close friend to keep him while you are gone.( if so make sure it is someone you trust!) hopefully i helped..
praying for you and your family @ this hard time.

Probably, just make sure to ask your your baby's pedatrician if he can prescribe some medicine to help clear your baby's sinuses so they don't get an awful earache from the change in air pressure on the plane.

when i brought the question of flying up to my doc, his response was the thing you have to worry about is the germs.
we also just went to california and although my daughter is a bit older then your baby, she did just fine. and we went in march.
my advice is to keep a bottle handy and try to get him to suck a pacifire. chances are he will sleep the whole flight.
i hope your dad gets better and congrats on the birth of your baby boy.

He will be fine, just make sure that you are prepared to feed him on him on the plane for taking off and landing and have a paci ready if he has one.
