Defense and world community? That would have to be Reagan. Clinton dimished the military, GW has no clout, Johnson was hated here in the US, Carter was too meticulous to be effective, Ford didn't have much time to act, and Kennedy almost caused WWIII. Eisenhower was useless. That leaves Nixon, Reagan, and Bush. Bush only had one term, and was not well received in other countries (puking on the Japanese). Nixon went to China, it's true, but his personality was attrocious. That leaves Reagan. People forget how prosperous the 80's were. Our military was in outstanding shape, and the Europeans were very close to us then.

With regard to those who say GW is the worst, I would have to disagree. He and Johnson were dispised for fighting unpopular wars. The economy was in decline before Clinton left office. In my lifetime the worst shape this country was in was during the Carter administration. Carter was intelligent, honest, and caring, but he was the worst president we've seen in the past 40 years.

I have 2

1. Lyndon B. Johnson - Unlike Kennedy, he did more for civil and human rights since Lincoln. Unfortunately, he also was the cause of Vietnam.

2. Bill Clinton - People forget how prosperous the 90's were.

Ronald Reagan was the best president. Clinton and John Kennedy were the worst because they could not leave the women alone.

Although I didn't care for him...it would be Ronald Reagan! For what it's worth, George W Bush has been by far the worst ever and I've studied every President and he takes the cake!!

Without exception it was John F. Kennedy. He took us from the brink of nuclear war--and reinvigorated this nation at the same time. Truly a great leader.
