Digital imaging, although a relative modern topic, can be traced back a few decades. It all began 1950.

The 1950's
Scientist Russel A. Kirsch and his colleagues, working at the National Bureau of Standards in the mid-1950's, constructed a simple mechanical drum scanner and used it to trace variations of intensity over the surfaces of photographs. By the year 1957 heralded the first ever scanned photo.
