Absolutely just as good. They're different from regular novels, but thats ok. Movies and books are different from each other too. Drawings aren't taken as seriously, but lately, there has been a real surge of graphic novels and the work coming out has been really top notch.

I love them both. The graphic novel has a depth to it that a normal novel doesn't the author is able to demonstrate their ideas (say of 23rd century Tokyo) while a normal novelist has to describe it and hope that the readers are able to imagine it on the same level they do..... It's the same with characters and props etc. Having said that I don't find there is the same level of empathy for characters in a graphic novel as there is in a normal novel, this is because usually the story within a graphic novel is pretty pacey while the normal novelist has to spend pages describing characters locations and situations (an investment in time for both author and reader which can be just basic background filler for a graphic novelist). I am never without a novel, graphic or otherwise and am a big fan of both

I guess they're pretty much as good as each other, because graphic novels have the plot, characters, and illustrations; novels have the plot and characters. Sometimes, though, people could think that because the author has to draw the pictures in the graphic novel, that the plot could be affected and make the story shorter... but I think that's just ridiculous. Graphic novels and real novels are just as good as the other.

well. the only difference is the mode/way of telling a story. some novels are good, some aren't, just like graphic novels.

My friend John reads graphic novels. I've never met anyone else who does. He is also the only person I know who ever liked the music of the Future Sound of London. Maybe there is a link.

they are a separate genre, novels will pull you into where the character is coming from. How is it possible to draw cold, hunger, depression ect ect ect. [I enjoy graphic novels, too]
