I'm looking to go to either Cancun, or Cozumel. How often are these areas effected during hurricane season? How are hurricanes handled in Mexico? Do the resorts do a good job evacuating or are you on your own? This is probably why vacations are pretty cheap during this time, isn't it?

You do not wan to go to Cancun or Cozumel during the hurricane seazon. They have the potential of getting clobbered. That in fact happened last summer, and all the tourists--thousands of them--did not enjoy it in the least. Instead head for the west coast, much much less lightly to suffer during the hurricane season.

All ship's captains and crew on cruise ships know where the storms are. During storms the ships will go where the storms are not. Consequently you may not visit the exact sites that you expected to visit. I was on a cruise in March, which is and was an excellent time to travel, and I can tell you that the Mexican government is trying, but it will be years before Cozumel will be back as it was before Hurricane Wilma. Much of the island was completely destroyed. In fact we were told that where the piers once were, the waves were as high at 70 feet. Most all of the rebuilding that we observed was done by private companies. The Mexican government appeared to be very slow repairing anything but they may have severe financial problems repairing all of the damage. Go during or before spring break time.

This is Mexico we are talking about and hurricane season too, so why are you even thinking about traveling there until after November anyway?
Nope, they aren't the best at evacuating at that time of the year because it's very slack and again I ask you why would you even think of Mexico during hurricane season anyway?
Might as well put a sign on your back saying "take me to the nest hurricane."
Sorry about all this but I have family along that stretch and think and pray for everyone there during hurricane season and if you go I'll have to add one more prayer to my list.
