This is sooooooo easy. I mean, I could have done it if I was in grade 4.
Put all the x on the left of the equal sign and put all the numbers on the right. When values and variables go from one side to the other, they change their sign.
-7x+1+8x=x+1
-7x+8x-x=1-1
0x=0
x=0/0
since 0 divided by a number is always a number, while anything divided by zero is infinite, x can be anything.
So the answer is B) No Solution
Edit: Wait, I change my mind! It's Identity, but you spelled it wrong, so I was like, indentity???

A. is correct. These are ALWAYS solved by "collecting" the terms of each type. Hence:
-7x+1+8x=x+1 when you collect the x terms becomes
-7x+8x + 1 = x + 1 or
x+1=x+1, which is true for any (constant) value of x, an identity

There is no answer to your question because if you combine the x's together you have zero x's also if you subtract 1 from both sides of the equation, you have zero left. Your equation reduces to 0=0, which tells you nothing about x. You could substitute 100 for x and you would get -700+1+800=100+1 or 101=101 which gives no information at all.

Identity? Is that a number?
The answer is that there are infinite solutions. Here's how it works:
First, add all like terms:
-7x+1+8x = x+1
x+1 = x+1
Since x+1 = x+1, that means x = x. So there is no fixed value for x.
So my answer is A, because it can't be anything else.

-7x+1+8x=x+1
so you combine the 2 sets of 'x's on the left side
-7x+8x is 1x; or X
so now we have
x+1=x+1
subtract 1 from both sides and you get
x=x
so you get identity. I'm pretty sure that A is the right answer

Okay, so you have -7x + 1 +8x = x + 1
On the left of the equation you can gather all the x's together so -7x+8x = 1x
so your left with x+1=x+1 which is x=x
So i think thats a identity.

First, take all the X's to one side of the equation, and all non-X's to the other side:
-7x+8x-x=0
-8x + 8x =0
so the answer is
0x=0
therefore the answer is zero
(remember that sign changes when you move from one side of equation to the other)
wait to see whos right before giving best answer :)

I did school maths a long time ago. In my day, we did things the simple way, and really got to see why maths worked. I mean; we used matches at first, to learn arithmetic, and worked up to complex things. Maybe your teachers tried to skip the basics?
Try it:
rewrite it, spreading out the items so your eyes can group them well:
(-7x) + (1) + (8x) = x + 1
when you break up 8x into 7x plus x, it will seem so simple to you too. After all,
7x plus x = 8x :-)
So, write it as:
(-7x) + (1) + (7x plus x) = x + 1
then as:
(-7x) + (1) + (7x) + (x) = x + 1
The terms -7x and + 7x cancel each other out, so it becomes:
(1) + ( x) = x + 1
OK?
IIRC, this uses the "law of distribution".

Transpose the x from the right side of the equal sign, and you have
-X + 8X+1 -7X, adding -7x and -1x, you get -8X +8x +1, doing simple arithematic, you get 1=1 (Ans.)
