My doctor recently gave me Othroevra patch for birthcontrol. I've never been on birth control before, but she told me to start it. My period is still two weeks away. Does anyone know what this will do to my cycle? The booklet says to start it with your period, but I don't really want to wait two weeks for it...

Talk to you doctor. She will tell you how to use it. Your best bet is to follow the instructions of your doctor.

The patch is not very safe, I don't think. There have been several fatalities with it. I'm extremely surprised your doctor put you on the patch for your first birth control method, that's a little strange. I'd go back and tell her you'd rather have the pill. It's a lot safer and it works better, I think. Also, yes, you're not supposed to start birth control until AFTER your period. Normally you'd take the BC for 3 weeks and then a placebo for one, and on that one week you'd have your period. In the case of the patch, you just wouldn't wear a patch on the week of your period.

I used it, and it worked fine for me. I would follow your Drs. directions. I think it will throw your cycle off if you don't. You may end of have a very very long period or miss a period. Or, they birth control my not be effective if started at the wrong time in your cycle. Remember, you should use another form of protection the first month of your birth control. If you start this at the wrong time, you might not get the protection from pregnancy that you want.

I would throw it away!I got depressed on it and two of my friends got preg. on it!!!We all use the ring now. Ask your Dr about it, it works great and you only have to worry about it once a month.
