You probably feel ashamed because of how you were raised. I believe that single people should masturbate to their hearts content as long as they are not doing it in public. Now I guess I am a hypocrite because I feel that while you are married you should only masturbate with your partners permission. I know this sounds weird but I think that is something two people who are in a commited relationship should discuss.

Uh, it's not normal. Are you young? Masturbation is supposed to make people feel better in various different ways but including feeling sad. Maybe you feel like you shouldn't have done that because you're grossed out or afraid of something. Just relax. It's healthy.
