I happen to know someone working for an oil refinery. As it happens, prices will continue to rise until people protest. Like last year when investigations began and the oil companies began lowering their prices. Unfortunately, prices only fell to $1.00 higher than the previous year and began to rise again this year to the point we're averaging $2.00 more than two years ago with less protesting over the change.

In a meeting to mangers at this particular refinery, it was said this will continue to the point where gas prices would be $4-$5 at the end of the year. There's no shortage, by the way. In a world where the less you have, the more it costs (supply and demand), we will continue to see this trend the more we see alternatives to gas become available.

How much can they be suffering with a 20 billion dollar gross profit in the first quarter of this year? Open your eyes.

What shall we do invade Iraq or Iran and take over thier oil wells.

Congress does not let the oil companies drill in most of Alaska and most of the off shore area. Bush tired to get that passed to let them drill but Congress would not let it happen.

Too many poor seals or foxes or something

Next Congress allows EPA to control what types of gas can be sold, allowing for several versions of regular, so they can't just make one type of gas so causes higher prices.

next of course there are strict rules on how to store and transport and laws on how to process it.

The government controls every item of cost of the oil.

Next a good part of the cost is taxes.

so Congress is most of the problem.

next if just the fact that there are just so much gas, and China and Eurrope is buying more and more, so as they want more and we want more, and there is only so much, it will cost more.

And of course EPA has so many rules that there are no new oil process plants being built either.

Why should he do anything? He owns a many of oils stocks like all his family does!

They are high because of an inflated market and the control over production, though much of it is BS!

Maybe we should have the oil companies, who are making obscene profits, pay more that the 2.1% that they currently pay in taxes. Instead a lot go to their shareholders who most never worked a day in their life!

I'd like to see them repeal all state and federal taxes on gas and let the oil companies pay it!

The price of chewing gum is also high. Why isn't the U.S. government, the U.N. or the Vatican doing something about it? Maybe if autos were outlawed world-wide, the price of gas would go down. What would be your (author's) guess?

I think he has tried but no one wants to drill in Alaska. This would effectively increase supply and drop the price of oil.

He has also proposed and passed a new alternative fuels vehicle credit which give the purchaser of a new vehicle a $4500.00 credit.

He is also tried to pass some energy plan but politics is always getting in the way

Gas prices are high because the chinese are attempting (unsuccessfully) to take over the oil market.
