I don't need justification to protect me and mine. If some a-hole is the key to the safety of my loved ones, not all the police in the world are enough to protect him from me. You may disagree, but I have no problem killing you over it. NEVER forget that.

There are means other than torture to get information from people. Torture is never justified, nor do civilized nations ever call for its use. In fact, the United Nations "Convention Against Torture" has been signed by many world powers, from Afganistan to the United Kingdom. Once you justify torture once, the lines can easily become blurred and the torturers quickly become as base as those they oppose. The cruelty of torture ought to be left to fade away as a horrible part of a by-gone era, though that is not yet the case.

No, we don't hook him up. He's a suspect in a criminal investigation. He's innocent until proved guilty in a court of law. Torture is against the law.
If we start torturing people to get the information that we think that they have, it'll quickly become torturing people to get the confession.
Give me a dental drill, a chair, some leather straps and five minutes; I'll have you confessing to being the mastermind behind the holocaust.

Besides Hollywood, how often does this happen in real life? It doesn't. Former SGM of SOCOM testified as well before a Senate hearing that torture NEVER gains anything close to reliable intelligence. As a former interrogator myself, I'll tell you that you catch far more reliable flies with honey than with vinegar.

NO NO NO NO! How could you look at your child and tell them that you tortured someone in their name, no matter how terrible the person was? It is just not something that is condoned in a civilized society. The fact that they have done something terrible does not justify you doing something terrible.

In a case such as you describe,to save a child,I would have to
say it's justified. In most cases it's not,and should be avoided.

If you want to say that torture is justified in one caser then it would be hypicritical to say that you can't torture war criminals, all though the fundemental truth is the torture is the means to saving more lives.
