My son is 7 months old. He eats baby food and cereal on a daily basis. He does not like to drink milk, (he drinks about 8 ounces a day now) He enjoys drinking water. He has acid reflux and and as a result is unable to drink juice nor eat the fruit baby food. He is EXTREMELY consipated. He cries when trying to pass stool and when it comes, it is very hard and big. Too hard and big for a baby. He sometimes has bleeding from the rectum and sometimes "piles". (hemeriods) He is given supposotories or ememas almost on a daily basis now. What can I do to relieve his constipation or at least make it a bit better for him?

This is DEFINITELY not a question for Yahoo! Answers. There are too many pieces of the story that aren't making sense.

You're not supposed to administer enemas or laxatives frequently, except under a doctor's supervision, as the bowels can come to depend on them. Does your pediatrican know all this? What does he or she recommend?

Also, both my daughters had acid reflux. Pretty severe cases. And they were able to eat baby food and table food starting at 4 months. I know that every child is different, and I don't have a medical degree, but I DO know that most acid reflux children are HELPED, not harmed, by the addition of solids to their diet. There are a lot of great drugs that can help make reflux less painful. I swear by Prevacid, and we used it together with Reglan for a few weeks, and I know other folks who were really helped by Zantac or some of the other drugs. If you're not already using one, I HIGHLY recommend talking to your pediatrician about a prescription.

I noticed that cereal causes babies to get constipated. My son was always constipated and had a hard time passing stools, when ever he ate cereal. I put a little of the dark Karo syrup in his bottle and it made it easier for him to pass bowel movements. I hope this helps. Try heating up your babies water a little because sometimes warm things help the babies pass stools!

You need to give him less cereal and get him medicine for his acid reflux. Take him to a doctor because that can lead to more serious problems. Also give him some prune baby food. Even if he spits some up the rest will help him get more regular.

I would stop the cereal - rice cereal, in particular, is very constipating. Can he eat vegetables? If so, some pureed veggies may help - peas are good for softening stools. Avoid potatoes and carrots, though, they may make matters worse. Try visiting http://www.homemade-baby-food-recipes.com/baby-constipation.html for more advice.

If he like water, give him a little Karo syrup(light) in his bottle. Give him two ounces of water and two ounces of Karo syrup.

If that doesn't work, try placing Cod Liver Oil in his food. They have mint flavor at the health food store and also at Wal-Mart.
The oil helps make the bowel movement softer and to generate one.

You can also use glycerin suppositories. I hope this works for your little guy. Good Luck!

prune juice and pear juice can help, but since he can't have fruit products, ask a doctor about controlling his acid reflux or alternative foods.

Karo syrup is the best. When my children got the same problem i'll give one table spoon in their bottle and the next day they are ok.
