lets pretend...
Get a survival kit..batteries , flashlights...emergency kit....pennicillin...and move to the wilderness...take with you a gun to hunt so you can feed your loved ones.
use water from streams to cook ,clean and drink...if you run out of batteries...use fire, learn how to make one without matches and lighters....live the simple live, we have done it before and millions still do.It ,of course,it is possible.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

We have become a society of have alls. We cannot imagine life without all the simple things like what you mentioned.
What about places where there have been wars? Much worse than losing a few modern conveniences.
People do manage when required to do so, provided we keep our humanity while this all goes on.
I hear talk of guns in here and if that is how people view things, we haven't a prayer in hell. I am not talking hunting. Just bare survival.
What happened in New Orleans wasn't pretty. Of course that would happen again.
But you know, in the long run, people would band together and help each other out. The rest can kill each other off as required.

Had it happened ? I think the people who stored food and bought generators would be the first to go. I could go without food for a few days but my computor. I think i'd light some candle's grab a beer and wait. I mean really what's the point of rushing out to get food ? I'd only get clubbed by death by old ladies with purses wanting that last loaf of pumperknickle (seinfeld joke). I'd wait a few days they reset the computors find my finicial records and it would be 0,000. If day three and four hit I might get nervous and hungry. You can eat dirt right ? I'd steal a neighbors chicken and let it eat bugs, then i'd live off the eggs. It would just so happen that I had so many eggs I'd offer to share with my neighbor who'd be this really hot, beautiful woman who liked eggs. She'd be so gratefull i'd be her hero and well this is a rated G pretend. We get to this point and I read the second part of the question now. I'd share my eggs with my family. The end.

You need to watch more of the Katrina footage buddy. Or any other violent 3rd world country. Been there done that. Still pretty bitter & moving across country this summer to get the hell away from what I've experienced. By the way, get a Mag Lite. Anyone with one and a few changes of batteries under those circumstances is the MAN!!!!

I don't think that we would run out of fresh water immediately as it is in the holding tanks now and pressurized. We would lose phone & cellular service & cable.

1) Transfer as much assets as possible into gold or silver
2) Stockade the house & Stock up on fresh water & canned goods
3) Beg / borrow / steal a generator and a gasoline holding tank.
4) Weapon & ammo to protect the house from raids.

I live in MN on a lake and can fish for my dinner if I have to. It would be a cold winter though!

Y2K was a great scam. As long as ones tolerance levels are high one can survive most items. On the other hand I've known people that their identity was their assets, once stolen they popped a cap on themselves.

Another part of my equation is to live in coastal Southern California that way the weather is better than most of the world.

One thing Y2K was a joke on you nuts by a few that wanted to make some cash.

Your hot water heater has about 40g of water. Clorox will if used right, makes bad water drinkable. Food can be found in many plants in the summer.

I live on a barrier island in central Florida and the power gas and water go out every time we even have a glancing blow from a hurricane. You need to prepare for the unforeseen. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I would do as many in New Orleans did and get food from grocerie stores. On my list of things to "loot" would be matches, blankets and a few pots and pans. I would pack up staples that would not spoil and then head to a place where there were not many others. ( I would not migrate to the center of the town and steal televisions. )

Find a designated shelter. If none are available, loot lots of canned foods, at least one weapon and ammunition. If my home is still standing and secure, hole up there until order is restored. If it's not, find one that is.
