M is 20 years older than C
so M = 60 and C = 40

that is easy
because it is in 3's

60 divided by 3 is 20

if M = 3
&
C = 2
and M is 60 years old

the only possible solution would be that M=3=20
in relation to 3:2

if the ratio of M's age to C's age is 3:1 and M was 60, M would be 40 years older

M:C = 3:2
60:C =3:2
C = 40 so 60 - 40= 20 The answer is 20.

ahh..nothing like some nice easy mental math...but if you can't do it mentally, use proportions:

3:2 :: 60:x or

3/2 = 60/x and cross multiply

3x=120
x=40

So M is 60 years old, C is 40 years old...now you can tell the teacher how much older M is than C!!

there are tons of great websites on the net to help with math. IF all else fails, try getting math for dummies. I don't mean to be rude, but I used it, and I am a college student! GOOD LUCK!
