i'm not sure if its colic- he doesn't scream. Mylicon, bouncy seats, etc. don't work- only driving in the car, but cant do that all the time. At night, sleeps fine-so no milk allergy or reflux. Am v sad for my baby and the bags under my eyes

Maybe you want him to sleep when he just isn't tired!! Babies--just like adults--are different from one another. Instead of trying to "make him" sleep, follow his needs. If you *help* him sleep when you see that he is tired, you will have much better results than if you try to *make* him sleep.

Ways to help him sleep include nursing him; your milk contains pain killers and compounds that help put him to sleep. If he likes car rides, try other types of motion--rocking with you in a rocking chair or on your shoulder (or in a sling or other baby carrier) while you walk. Sing to him; he knows your voice already. Some babies like a nice warm bath.

Try everything; something will work. Even if not, you'll be developing a closer relationship with him. And he will mature and need *different* things from you.

I can sympathize with you 100%. My baby (who is now 10) cried ALL the time, to the point where I just wanted to die (seriously). I can definitely relate to bags under the eyes. Be thankful he sleeps at night. Maybe your baby gets bellyaches during the day or is perhaps constipated.

The best bit of advice I can give you is make sure you have a pediatrician. I didn't, and that's the biggest mistake I ever made. I don't think family practice doctors have a clue about babies - or at least mine didn't.

Good luck to you and hang in there. I didn't think I'd live through it and I did.

i hope that what i soea not freak you out but if your baby trully sound like a cat there is a condition called 5p- Syndrome (five p minus), also known as Cat Cry Syndrome or Cri du Chat Syndrome. please look at the link and see if this is your baby if not she is just 3 weeks old and that is the only way she can talk to you i have 6 kids my youngest is 2 weeks old and i am grateful that this one is not colicy but all my others would cry for hours on end for days but they soon grew out of it by the time they where about a month to two months, if your baby cries for 3 or more hours at a time non stop for 4 days or more a week then it is colic and you can ask the dr what he suggests to give.
good luck

The first to answers are really good advice. I just want to add that you NEED to remember that you baby is ONLY 3 weeks old. At 3 weeks, he is NOT doing anything intentually. At this point don't try to make him sleep, just let it happen. When you are feeding him, talk to him in a soothing voice. Have you tried laying him on a blanket on the floor with one of those dangle mobile type toys? If you haven't, give it a try. All babies are different, and yours maybe trying to show you his independence already.

Good luck...

if you are breast feeding - you must be aware what you eat. If you drink lots of coffee for instance, the caffein may keep your baby from necessary sleep. If you eat food that makes tummyache - this can pass to the baby's tummy. You also have to make sure the baby gets to "burp" after meals. Sing to him; give a nice little bath or how about a baby massage with a nice baby-oil?

Join the parenthood club, sadly to say this is normal, try other activities with the baby during the day, but don't let it get to you, it doesn't last forever, even though it may seem so, they just are not use to the environment yet, and will come around to it eventually.

have you tried a swing or rocking? with the rocking just make sure you don't fall asleep too. you could also try soothing music, classical is good.i used to put my son to bed to celine dion lol. it takes time don't worry and hang in there. you also didn't mention if you breastfed or used formula, if you are breast feeding watch what you eat and drink that goes into the baby's system as well.if you are using formula, you may want to switch to soy, still the same nutrition but it may sit with his tummy better. good luck and remember don't stress out, he can sense it.
