The farad is the unit assigned to the measure of capacitance in a capacitor (ie a capacitor has a capacitance of 1 farad).

A farad is defined as being coulombs per volt, so that in the 1 farad capacitor, 1 coulomb of charge will move from one plate of the capacitor to the other for every volt of potential difference (aka voltage) between the two plates.
