Hi

I actually live there!

The street in which the market is held is called Middlesex Street, but remains known to many as Petticoat Lane. This name comes from the Huguenot weavers who settled here having fled from persecution in Europe. They wove and sold lace and petticoats, hence the name. It is said that the Victorians changed the street name because they thought mention of petticoats unseemly!

The market is a big market and stretches from Bishopsgate down to Aldgate and covers the surrounding streets as well. Because it is so big you can access it from three different tube stations - Aldgate, Aldgate East and Liverpool Street. Circle Line travellers can choose between Liverpool Street and Aldgate, Central Line travellers should choose Liverpool Street, District Line travellers should get off at Aldgate East.

Liverpool street is the best it is a hub/connection station so a number of lines go through it the other station algate east!!! not so much choice on lines.

It is a 5 - 10 min walk but there are signs and when you finish shopping its dead easy to get to the center of town to do the tourist thing. Get some cheep office clothes for me!!!
