Yes. They wouldn't have prescribed it to you unless they thought it would help. Most of the pills on the market now are very low dose estrogen. If your doctor prescribed it and your parents know about it, take them and you will be surprised how much easier your periods are. You will even know exactly when they will be and how long they will last. You should have fewer cramps and it might even help with acne, if you have it.

Yes, it's okay. You may have some bad side-effects with certain methods, but you can always have your doctor try a different pill. I'm 17 and on the Nuva ring for birth control and cycle regulation, and the only negative effect was that I gained 3 pounds, which I lost after the first two weeks. You'll be able to find something that works for you, too.

As far as I know, you should be alright. I was put on the pill around your age for the same reasons. My mom is a very thorough person when it comes to her kids, and she made sure to grill the doctor about it! :) I think the deal is that you can't take it for more than 7 to 10 years in a row before you have to quit and look for alternative forms of birth control or ways to regulate your cycle.

Express your concerns to your doctor and have them explain EVERYthing to you. Sometimes they just want to get in, solve the problem and move on to the next patient. But it is vital that they break it all down for you. It is part of their job.

It is very common to prescribe birth control pills to regulate cycle, because it does regulate cycle. It is perfectly OK for you to take it even though youre only 15.
You don't have to explain yourself to anyone except your parents. Don't let people who assume you want to take birth control pills to have sex get to you.

As long as you've had an examination done by your doctor and his/her go ahead, it should be fine. I started when I was 15 too. If you've had the same doctor for awhile, he'll know your health background and be able to advice you which pill is best for you. Good luck, you should be fine. I never had any side effects and hardly ever had any pimples. (LOL)

I would say discuss it with whatever adult you live with, and let them know why you want to. Then talk to family doc. Just make sure everyone knows your real intentions. Too often teens get a bad rap, and people assume that girls just want birth control for the obvious reason, and not for a real medical reason like yours. I was in your shoes, and my Mom told me no. I had to suffer until I turned 18...no fun. Good luck!

My wife devoloped blood clots at age 27 when our first daughter was born. The doctors think it may have been from being on the pill for 10 years.
