I gave birth in Florida (in 1999) and in Connecticut (in 2003) and got the same things from both hospitals, after each birth. What I got were: enough formula for 1 month, a small package of newborn Pampers, lots of gauze that the nurses thought I should use with warm water as baby wipes (yeah...right!), I got 2-3 small bottles of liquid formula that you simply twist the nipple onto (which they also gave me), for my son they sent home Vaseline and gauze to protect the circumcision, and yes they also gave me diaper bags! They were very small but I used them a great deal. Hey, in FL I even got a breast pump! Go and get a tour of the hospital and they will tell you EVERYTHING that you will be sent home with. They will also send you home with meds for yourself and lots of literature and phone numbers so you can read during ALL OF YOUR FREE TIME! hahaha! Good luck and I hope you get as hooked up as I did!

Both Enfamil and Similac are known to provide hospitals with basic diaper bags with formula samples and information that are to be given for free. However, what a particular hospital has in addition depends. Some may load you up and some will only hand out information sheets.

With my first son, they gave us a few receiving blankets (the cheap, crummy ones hospitals use), a sample diaper bag from Enfamil...had a can of formula and some coupons in it, but it was a nice bag), a pacifier, the baby's little stocking cap, and that was it for him. For me, they sent me home with some Tucks hemmorhoid pads (i tore while delivering him). With my second son, he was an emergency c-section and was in the hospital a day or two longer. They LOADED US UP. We got a case of diapers, several pacifiers, about a month's worth of formula, dressing gowns and blankets. This was in Michigan.

they give you diaper bags with a thing of formula ..1 diaper (normally huggies) a thing of baby wipes...a receiving blanket...some give a pacifier..some dont cuz they think its bad for the babys gums...just depends...all the big stuff you will need to get on ur own...and make sure you have a car seat, you wont be allowed to leave the hospital with your baby without having a carseat...they are very strict about that rule

they will give you a diaper bag with formula maybe some diapers and it depends on your discharge nurse with my first baby they only gave me the bag with a few can of formula, But with my second the nurse let me take all of the stuff that was left in the bottom of the baby cart a pack of diapers all the ready to use plastic baby bottles with formula in them, nipples, a few blankets, a diaper bag with a container of formula inside it. but I guess it just depends on the hospital and the nurses. good luck and congrats.

No, the new baby is your responsibility and leaving the hospital is not a baby shower. Basically, you get some instructions and the hospital bill.
