ok well you should go to the lamaze classes they will tell you eveyrthing you need to know about the before labor, during labor and after labor, they will tell you all the information you need to know. you can ask your OB doctor when the next classes are. if you cant attend.
need to know info,
~ after your baby is born they will do the normal, if the baby and you are ine you are more the likely going to go home the day after.
~ upon discharge they will give you a sample bag (diaper bag) and it will have a can of formula, some coupons, and i believe some wipes.
~ when you are going to be discharged from the hospital you are going to need to take some things for your self and the baby. for the baby you are going to need to take a change of clothes, diapers, bottles, whipes, and a blanket. for you, you are going to need all your personal stuff and clothes.

oh and of course you will need to have the babies car seat installed in the car they will check if you have it in properly.
i really sugest that you take the lamaze classes they are extremly helpful

good luck and congrats. on the bundle of joy

Um.....no. That's part of your responsibility as a parent. Surely you have some baby clothes and blankets? If not, you better get your act together in a hurry! Some hospitals will send you home with the hat your baby wore in the nursery (if you even bother to let them go to the nursery.......I didn't and mine stayed with me the whole time). Some also send whatever's left of the package of diapers your baby used. A little suction bulb and a few other odds and ends. You HAVE to have a car seat or the baby can't leave with you.
Now I'm sure that if you don't have ANYTHING at all, they will let you take a blanket (but who would WANT those tiny blankets that won't even stay on the baby?), and maybe a little t-shirt. But it wouldn't look good for someone to come have a baby and not be prepared with the bare necessities.

Normal hospitals in america give you a receiving blanket, a onsie for the baby, a diaper bag normally from the company silimiac (baby formula) with huggies diapers and diaper wipes, they also come with coupons...sometimes the brands are different but pretty much the same things.....they do not provide car seats however, anything else besides that stuff you will need to bring to the hospital with you.

I guess it depends on the hospital. Sometimes they have volunteer groups who provide stuff like that or even a gift package of disposable diapers, receiving blankets and such. You should check with the hospital. There are probably other organizations as well that can help if you don't have the money to buy your own stuff. You may also be required to have the proper safety car seat for the baby before they release him or her. Congratulations and best of luck to you and baby.

In New York, they won't let you leave the hospital unless you come with some sort of car seat to put the baby in first to hold the baby in when you leave. Something about liability issues...are you without baby clothes? A baby shower thrown by your friends/family for you usually takes care of the baby clothes and blankets.

I had my own blankets and outfits, but I did keep the shirt my daughter was put in. I doubt a baby would go home with only a diaper on unless their parents had it that way. My experience is that most hospital nurses are rather helpful, dispensing good information if nothing else.

NO??? Jeez where were all the kids born in the black hole of Calcutta? Our son came home with almost everything they had in the hospital...blankets, a stuffed bear they had in his crib, formula...you name it...although our son spent three months in the NICU at Children's Hospital...so I'm not sure if it's different case or what...but I'm relatively certain, any good hospital will provide the basics....

I was given the blanket and the little onesie plus a small basket of samples, diapers, wipes, formula. I guess I delivered at a rich hospital.

No, you should bring everything for your baby even a diaper if you like. You never know what will happen on the way home. You also should have the proper car seat or they won't let you take baby in the car.
