My friend lives in Md. She had a baby a few months ago. Her and the baby's father aren't on good terms because she doesn't want to be with him anymore. The father of the baby picked up the child for a visit and has not brought the baby back and says he will not. Custody has not been established so how can she get her baby back? (Without flippingout and going to jail.)

I do not know the custody laws in Md., but she needs to contact the police immediately. They can help her sort this whole mess out. She also may need to report her baby as missing after a certain number of hours. She must feel like flipping out, but she needs to remain as calm as possible for the health and well-being of her child. She may also want to check with human services in her area also to get as much help as is possible. If she has a lawyer, he or she should be contacted also. If she cannot afford a lawyer, most states have free legal services available. Good luck and God bless you for trying to help your friend. I'll pray for you both, and the baby also.

She needs to report this to the police immediately. She is the baby's primary care giver, and has a bit more rights in this situation. She also needs to contact a lawyer right away and get a temporary custody agreement with the father, until they can work out permanant parental rights.

Call the police, call a lawyer, also I don't know if there has been abuse from him in the relationship? If there has contacting your local Domestic Abuse Hot line could help. If there has been past abuse he is using the child to emotionally abuse her. Also if she is breastfeeding I believe that the Police could have him return the baby and tell him to file for custody. I know every state is different. I will pray for her and best of luck.

tell your friend that the babys custody is hers not even if it hasent been establish she should go to the police and notify ,tell them what happen they will send your friend with a police officer to pick up the baby .you see the one that can go to jail is the father because what he has done is almost a kidnap.

She needs to get a lawyer and take him to court to establish parental rights and then after they are established and he takes the baby again then she can call the police and get him for kidnapping...until then there is nothing she can do because the baby is just as much his as it is hers...good luck

he can't keep the baby from the mother so tell her to contact a lawyer so she can get custody of the baby if the father tries to keep the baby after that he will have serious consequences

call the cops. they have to establish his paternity for him to even attempt custody anyway. gosh...i really hope the baby is okay if baby is breastfed. Her right for the baby is a much stronger case than his at this age.

She needs to contact a lawyer right away, and tell her to make a police report - it may come in handy at a later time.

she should have called the police once she realized that he wasn't bringing the baby back! I would still call the police and have him charged with kidnapping
