I live on a mountain covered in rocks, when I try to jab any sharpened objects in the ground, it stops on rocks. Any suggestions on how else I might find my septic tank? Thanks

I have the same problem and my current plan is to rent a powered snake for cleaning drain pipes. Then I'll remove the clean out plug from the main drain pipe that runs from your house to the septic tank. When you feed the snake in far enough, it will eventually stop at the septic tank. Now you know how far away and the general direction that the tank is from the house. Next I was going to experiment using a marine type fog horn blaster to launch a loud horn blast into the drain pipe. Maybe somebody outside can use a big funnel between their ear and the ground to locate the patch of dirt over the tank that covers it. The professionals use a radio sonde to insert in the pipe and a radio receiver to trace the path of either cast iron or PVC sewage pipes.
