My wipers are "Slapping." I need a wiper transmission according to the dealership. I think it's something that could be replaced at home, but the guy there said I had to bring it to them to be serviced. My car isn't under warranty anymore, so I don't see the big deal. Is there some untold reason why one couldn't replace it at home??

OK...I get it Corey...the guy told me it was NOT the motor, like you said. He said the motor was fine. The 2 parts come in a kit, and have to be replaced together....does that sound right??

Yes there is a wiper transmission!!!
It connects from the wiper motor to the wiper arms under the cowl area.
I have changed them on a few vehicles, and they are very simple to do.
Although the usual sign of needing a new one is having only one wiper move while the other does not.
But... If it is bent, ow has a worn out bushing, I could see it causing a "slapping" problem.

a transmission?? no..not a transmission. Maybe a new wiper motor. I assume you replaced the blades first and that didn't remedy the situation. I'd first look in a salvage yard/junkyard for the same part. I doubt it's very complicated to repair. Try to use the wipers only when the glass is wet and not leave them on to drag across dry glass.

Are you sure it is a wiper transmission? I think you mean a wiper motor.

if theyre just slapping it's probably that your wiper arms( not blades honey) need to be replaced they might not be strong enough to hold them on the windsheild, you also might want to try a new set of summer blades ( both of which you can find at a local place carquest napa etc)

If you have the tools, the time and the know how, then by all means you can repair it yourself. But if all else fails, you can take it to a local garage for the same repair but less money.

You can probably get a working one a junk yard and swap it out... that's what my dad did years ago. If you can pick up a Chilton guide for your car you might find instructions on doing it yourself.

it might not be done correctly - if you disconnect the wrong thing or reconnect it wrong, it could screw things up.
