The only way to do this reasonably is to fly. Because you want to go from Lex to Tex and back again you would want to fly. Mapquest says it is 1068 miles one way and that it would take you 16 hours and 8 min to do the trip. If you doubled that it would be 32 hours and 16 min. So that would make it impossible to drive. If you did drive and wanted to spend ALL of two days driving pretty much you would spend approximately 250 dollars in gas assuming it costs around 3 bucks a gallon and that you got 25 miles to the gallon in your car. An airline ticket on www.kayak.com presently costs $352 from lex to hou which seems a tad high but overall you will save money cause you won't have to stop and eat and yada yada yada. So I would def fly and save money and time on your trip to Houston! Good luck and have fun on your trip!

A road trip would take about 16 hours, so there's no way you can make it in one day.

There's no Amtrak station in Lexington, so you have to get the train from another city. The closest city would be Fulton KY which is about 4 hours and 30 minutes away. From Fulton, you have to take the train down to New Orleans, and then take another train to Houston. This trip would not take less than 22 hours. So the total trip is about 26 hours and 30 minutes. So here too you cannot make it on the same day.

The third and fast way is by air. Continental offers direct flights from Lexington to Houston. It takes about 2 and an half hours for this trip, so you can make it back again in the same day. Other airlines that offer connecting services between Lexington and Houston are American, Delta, Northwest, United and US Airways. I'm sure you can make back on the same day on these airlines too.
